2015 Year of the Wearable

The launch of the Apple Watch next year could be a key factor involved with wearable technology becoming much more mainstream, and some analysts are expecting the Apple Watch to be really popular due to existing high levels of consumer trust and also compatibility of the device with the iPhone. Initially we can expect to see health and fitness apps to be the most popular and widespread but with multiple sensors we can expect a diverse range of apps next year for brand new use cases that aren’t so feasible or are even impossible on handheld devices.

The Apple Watch has recently featured on the cover of the Chinese edition of Vogue magazine and several key employees with a background in the fashion industry now work for the California based company. This includes staff from Burberry, Nike and YSL.

Many high profile companies and personalities look to be preparing for the launch of wearable devices. Microsoft is releasing a smart watch in a few weeks time, and luxury goods maker LVMH (owner of Tag Heuer) is anticipated to be releasing a luxury wearable device in the future following news that it is in talks with a technology company. Music, fashion and technology expert Will I am is releasing a smart watch called Puls.

Many wearable developers will already have been considering the unique possible use cases of a smart watch with multiple sensors, and they will be pleased to hear that the Apple Watch SDK is going to be released by Apple in November.

Previously we have seen Apple set the standard for MP3 player, smart phone and tablet design and raise it to a much higher level, and according to a 2014 Interbrand report, Apple is the world’s most valuable brand. With the launch of the Apple Watch next year, and such an experienced and talented team involved in it’s design, it looks like we can expect the same outcome for the Apple Watch and the smart watch category. Competitors will surely follow Apple’s lead shortly afterwards so 2015 looks like it will be a very exciting and innovative milestone year for wearable technology.
